Outstanding Faculty

Through the years, the PNGE Department has been privileged to have many outstanding professors as part of its faculty. Distinguished professors head the work that results in a stimulating and productive environment, conducive to successful research and inspired teaching. The faculty's diverse educational background, enthusiasm, and dedication have helped to provide the Department with pre-requisite ingredients toward strong academic programs.

Recognized as the Outstanding Professor in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department by the Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Spring 2009.


Professor Ameri
Received the 2008 Mineral Resource's Outstanding Alumni Award.
This award exemplifies the highest ideals of leadership, integrity, and dedication to the mineral industries.

Recognized as the Outstanding Professor in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department by the Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Spring 2008.

Recognized as 2007 Oil & Gas Man of the Year by the West Virginia Oil and Gas Festival in August 2007.

Recognized as the Outstanding Professor in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department by the Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Spring 2007.

Dr. H.Illkin Bilgesu
Recognized as the Outstanding Professor in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department by the Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Spring 2003.

Chair/Professor Samuel Ameri
For his outstanding work in developing the Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department at WVU, the SPE(Society of Petroleum Engineers)awarded Chair Ameri the North American Service Award. Chair Ameri's citation included:

To a gifted academic leader who, using his inspirational skills, developed the first class WVU Petroleum Engineering Department with its excellent research and graduates, guides industry through these transitional times.

This award was presented to Chairman Ameri in Lexington, KY at the SPE annual Eastern Regional Conference, October 2002.
