Student Projects

Known by faculty and industry as the “Capstone Design Experience,” students nearing graduation will become involved in an independent project that will combine all their skills, knowledge and creativity. The engineering design experience is built upon the fundamental concepts of ethical (or societal) issues in engineering sciences, realistic constraints (ex. economic factors, safety), and basic math and science. Using “actual field data” for their design project, students will gather materials and participate in activities that are accurate to the industry, thus creating a graduate from WVU to be more alert, knowledgeable, and prepared to meet the engineering challenges of the future.

Throughout the semester, students will have the opportunity to submit their work to be critiqued and graded by the assigned professor, so their project can be completed at the end of the semester. At the conclusion, the student will submit a comprehensive written report for a final grade.

One of the dynamic aspects of the “Capstone Design Experience” is students will not only be presenting their projects to faculty and other students, but they will also make a final presentation of their project to PNGE’s own industry partners and visiting Committee members.
