Upon making the decision to further your career as a Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineer, you—the undergraduate—will have one of the best opportunities to obtain the skills necessary for lifelong success. PNGE curriculum blends scientific and engineering fundamentals, oral and written communication and computer applications followed by drilling engineering, production engineering, reservoir engineering and stimulation design leading to a capstone design course. Not only will you gain valuable knowledge, but you will also gain insight and experience from professionals. During your years at WVU, the Faculty and Staff of PNGE are determined to provide the maximum number of opportunities that are possible. From local industry interaction, like the petroleum engineers at the U.S. DOE/NETL (National Labs), to guest lecturers by some of the worlds leading professionals, PNGE will help to make your engineering dreams come true. Production sites, secondary and enhanced oil recovery projects, compressor stations, gas storage fields, and corporate offices all provide excellent opportunities for study as well. Additional experience is provided through modern, well-equipped laboratories within the Department and the University.

One of the most outstanding aspects about the faculty and staff at PNGE is that the need for growth and development never stops. One of the Department’s main projects is on producing more fuel from fewer wells, with fewer spills. This means that PNGE is looking for future Petroleum Engineers that could make drilling and production more environmentally friendly. While maintaining, or even enhancing the unique features that make WVU PNGE distinctive, the Department’s visionary goal is to continue this academic evolution until it’s completion.
